Education Opportunities

 Connection Classes

We believe that the parents have the primary responsibility for the spiritual nurturing of their children and that it is the responsibility of the church to assist them in this task. Connection Classes are where we begin our task by laying a solid foundation for preschoolers to learn the basics of our faith.

We believe in the truth and accuracy of the Bible, so we endeavor to teach the real truth of the Bible to preschoolers on their level of understanding. This is done by adherence to the Biblical accounts without injecting fantasy, while at the same time relating the Bible to the everyday experiences of the preschoolers in our care.

Recognizing the concrete nature of preschool thinking, we center our teaching on the subject areas of God, Jesus, Bible, Creation, Family, Self, Church, and Community and World. Varied and age-appropriate teaching methods are employed to help our preschoolers learn essential facts in each of these areas such as:

As preschoolers hear the words God, Jesus, Bible, and Church and their needs are met, they associate these words with happy feelings. This association will develop into trust, laying the groundwork for the child to trust Jesus when the Holy Spirit begins His work of salvation later in the preschooler’s life. When preschoolers have happy experiences at church, we set the stage for them to always want church to be a part of their lives.

During both worship services on Sunday mornings, we expand on the Bible study that is taught during our 9:45 am Connection Classes. While the same Bible story and Bible verses are taught during this time, the activities are unique so that meaningful learning will be achieved for both the child who is here multiple hours and those that attend one session only. While some of our classes offer permanent teachers, most additional sessions are staffed by volunteers who rotate on a once per month basis.

Connection classes meet at 9:45 for kindergarteners, children (grades 1-6), students (grades 7-12) and adults, but we have 3 sessions for preschoolers (Birth – Pre-K) at 8:30 am, 9:45 am and 11:00 am on Sunday mornings year-round. Typically, your child would only attend two sessions while you attend a Connection class and one hour of worship. Class assignments are made based on projected school class and birthdates. When you arrive on campus, please come to our welcome desk for assistance in locating the correct class for your preschoolers.

Missions Education

Mission Friends is the name of our primary missions education program for preschoolers. In Mission Friends, preschoolers learn about people and countries around the world and about the work of Southern Baptist missionaries in these places. They also learn about groups within the United States that missionaries serve among such as homeless, migrant workers, ethnic groups, and international students.

Our Mission Friends learn to actively participate in missions through mission projects such as Operation Christmas Child, through giving to special offerings such as the Lottie Moon Offering for international missions and the Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions, and through praying for our missionaries.

During the summer, our preschoolers participate in Mission Fun Around the World. Each week a different country is highlighted and the preschoolers have the opportunity to taste foods, hear music, learn stories of missionaries, and experience the culture and customs of the highlighted country.

Mission Friends and Mission Fun Around the World meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 for ages two through kindergarten. Childcare is provided for babies and younger preschoolers during this time.

Preschool Choir

Through a variety of musical experiences and activities, preschoolers ages three and up will grow in their music appreciation and ability. They can learn to joyfully praise God through musical expression of worship.

Preschool Choirs meet at 6:00 pm on Sunday evenings during the school year. Childcare is provided for babies and younger preschoolers during this time.

Childcare

Childcare through age four is generally provided during regular church services when other programming is not offered. Exceptions (such as Christmas Eve services) are generally advertised in church publications or on the website.

Paid childcare workers are carefully screened and supervised to ensure the safety of the preschoolers left in our care.
